Although rumors were heard already in 2010, Google's interest in the already crowded travel marketplace became official at the beginning of 2011 when, in April, ITA Software acquisition by the search engine giant was officially announced for $700 million. ITA Software is the company which has implemented and still provides air fare-search technology to travel sites such as Expedia, Bing Travel, Travelocity, Kayak and many others. After 5 months from their acquisition, in September, Google officially released it airfare search engine, Flight Search, that is Google first step into the travel marketplace.
