The Sea of Galilee - A Major Social Hub 2000 Years Ago

The Sea of Galilee (which is actually a lake) was a major social and commercial hub 2,000 years ago, during the life time of Jesus of Nazareth. At seven miles wide and thirteen miles long, it is no wonder that many people gave it the name of sea, rather than lake. The Sea of Galilee was part of the old Via Maris, which connected Egypt to other countries in the north thus making it attractive to merchants. Surrounded by fertile lands, the lake had many settlements around it's shores, Capernaum being of them.
