The "Lincoln Flag"

The "Lincoln Flag" is the U.S. flag that was placed under President Abraham Lincoln's head as he lay dying in the State Box at Ford's Theater the night of April 14,1865. After the President was shot, Thomas Gourlay, actor and stage manager would take the 36 star U.S. flag that had been used as bunting and after folding the flag he would place the flag under President Lincoln's bleeding head. This is a story of intrigue regarding the assassination, and a story of humanity and the sadness that cloaked this national heirloom, The "Lincoln Flag".
